Recruitment to the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service



Recruitment of the graduates to the Sri Lanka teachers’ service Grade 3- Ⅰ(a)

  1. Calling applications from the qualified candidates by a newspaper notification.
  2. Conducting a competitive examination for the candidates (written, practical) according to the newspaper notification
  3. Recruitment to the service is made based on the written and practical examination for the vacancies available.
  4. Basic qualifications and requirements for the recruitment are listed below.
Basic qualification
I. The candidate must be a Sri Lankan citizen

II. The candidate must have obtained a degree relevant to the particular field of subjects from a university recognized by the University Grant Commission

III. The candidate must have the permanent residency in the Southern province for three years preceding the closing date of applications
Or
The permanent residency of the spouse for three years in the Southern province with at least one year permanent residency of the candidate.

IV. If the residency in the Southern province has been changed the candidate must have at least one year permanent residency in the particular division – (confirmation of the residency according to the register in the election office.)

V. The applicant should possess an excellent character and should have a sound mental and physical condition.

VI. The applicant shouldn’t be less than 18 years and more than 35 years of age by the closing date of application.

These recruitments are made only by the Southern Provincial Ministry of Education and they are made to the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service Class - Grade Ⅰ(a).

Issuing the appointment letters to the Diploma holders Of National Diploma In Teaching
  • Diploma holders are interviewed by the Secretary of line Ministry and the list of recruitments to the southern province are sent to the Southern Provincial Department of education.
  • Their letters of appointments are issued by the Ministry of Education.

Recruitment of Bachelors of education to the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service Grade 2 – class Ⅱ
  1. The lists of graduates (Bachelor of Education) are issued to the Southern provincial Ministry of education annually by the University of Colombo.
  2. These graduates are interviewed and forwarded to the schools where vacancies available under the approval of the secretary of the line ministry and letters of appointments are issued to them by the Southern Provincial Ministry of Education.

Recruitment of the graduates for the vocational subjects to the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service Grade 03 – class Ⅰ(අ) and issuing letters of appointment
  1. Method of Recruitment –
    Calling applications from the qualified graduates and recruitment to the Teachers’ Service is made based on the written competitive examination and those who are qualified are forwarded to the schools where vocational subjects are taught.
  2. Issuing of the permanent letters is done by the Southern provincial Ministry of Education.
